Herbal cleanse, juice cleanses – there are many ways to cleanse your body of toxins and waste.

Some of the ways may be better than others. Some healthier than others.

As long as you are putting natural ingredients into your body, you’re going to be at least somewhat safe.

However, if you’re on any prescription medications, you need to speak with your healthcare professional about any risks a cleanse may pose to your medications.

What Are Juice Cleanses?

Are juice cleanses healthy?

To understand the benefits of a juice cleanse, you need to know what it really is.

A juice cleanse works as a detox that helps flush toxins and food waste from your system. It’s just what it sounds like – you use juice (vegetables and fruits) to help flush your system.

You already know how beneficial fruits and vegetables are for your overall health. They can also aid in removing the unhealthy things from your system.

Do juice cleanses work?

Yes, they do.

When you’re going on a limited diet of foods that are meant to clean your system, they will do just that. You have to follow the rules though if a cleanse diet calls for no other foods you can’t cheat, or it’s not going to work properly.

Why Do People Use Juice Cleanses?

Smoothies and juice blends do a lot of things when they are introduced into the body. When they aren’t being hindered by other foods and the acts of digesting solids, they can get to the job even quicker.

By juice fasting and cleansing, you will flush fats and toxins from the body while replacing them with healthy fats and energy providing protein. You’ll start to feel more energetic and less sluggish. Your skin will be healthier, your hair too, and even your inside (where you can’t see what the cleanse does, but you can feel it.

In the documentary “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead” a guy shows you what juice fasting and cleansing can do for you, even if you only do it for three days. The longer you live on juice, the more benefits you’ll get.

And you’ll find that this healthy diet resets your whole system.

You can still get many of the benefits even if you only swap out one or two meals a day for a juice cleanse. You can make your own juices at home, or buy them premade in the store.

Creating Your Juice Cleanse

If you want to try a juice cleanse, start with a three-day cleanse. You’ll want to have a variety of fruits and vegetables on hand, as well as a juicer and a blender. You can invest in some good blending systems with Ninja and Magic Bullet – the Nutri Bullet comes in a few version and can really mulch up your fruits and vegetables thoroughly.

You want to make sure you’re still getting all the nutrients your body needs, so variety is important.

You also want to make sure you start with your first “meal” of the day. Plus, it helps to switch up your juices and smoothies so that you’re getting a variety of flavors and not get bored with it before you make it through the duration.

Making your own home juice cleanses will give you more satisfaction than using store bought juice cleanses.

Here are some fruit and veggie blends to consider if you want to do a DIY juice cleanse from home. Measurements aren’t always exact on these. And as you start making them on a regular basis, you’ll find your own measurements that work to your taste.

1. Green Juice Blend

Green juice is always a good way to begin your day, and this is the perfect juice to start a cleanse with as well. It’s a blend you get used to, and many people think it tastes great right from the first sip.

You will blend/juice six stalks of celery, two green apples, a cucumber, three large leaves of both kale and romaine, a handful of spinach, one lemon, and a handful of parsley.

2. Cayenne Lemonade

This is a difficult mix for some people to drink, especially if you’re not a fan of spicy hot stuff. Just drink it fast – as this is a juice mix that has great weight loss benefits.

For this juice, you will combine the juice of three medium-sized lemons, a couple of dashes of cayenne, a tablespoon of honey (or agave), and 16 ounces of water.

3. Pineapple Blend

Sweet and delicious, with a touch of cool, this is a great juice blend for morning, noon, or night. It’s made up of two green apples, one-third of a pineapple (fresh), and a couple of pinches of fresh mint.

4. Power Blend

To power you through this whole cleansing process, this juice mix has so many healthy fruits and vegetables that it is just the best. It also has some ginger to help keep your tummy at ease.

For this power blend, you’ll combine two green apples, three large carrots, two beets (throw in the greens and everything), one lemon, and one and a half tablespoons of ginger.

Other Rules of the Cleanse

While you’re on your juice cleanse, you can also have around 12 ounces of almond milk (unsweetened only) a day to go with everything (drink it on its own though). You want to avoid coffee and alcohol, but you can have tea and tons of water. Lastly, don’t forget to exercise!
